Annual Meeting!

Our Annual Meeting is Sunday January 29th at 5:30.

We will begin with a Potluck dinner and then proceed to business.

For anyone who is wondering, Annual Meetings are a chance for the entire parish community to go over what we did in 2011 and look ahead to what we may do in 2012. And eat good food. Please mark your calendars and join us!

Diocesan Convention, October 7-9

Diocesan Convention is this weekend! Diocesan Convention is our chance to see our friends and colleagues, new and old, hear about what is going on around the Diocese, and conduct some business.

Holy Week 2011

Holy Week kicks off on April 17th with Palm Sunday. For anyone who wants a preview of the coming week, I’ll be the guest speaker in the Methodist’s Lenten Class right after the service talking about the Book of Common Prayer and our Liturgy.
Maundy Thursday will be a 6pm dinner followed by the Maundy Liturgy (Footwashing and Eucharist). Come for part or all of the night.
Good Friday will be a noon service.
We will be celebrating the Easter Vigil at 8:30 on Saturday April 23.

A Mad Dash Through the New Testament

At 27 books, the New Testament is about 40% of the Bible (a little less of you include the Apocrypha in the total book count). That 40% set the tone for the Christian Church and is not easy to understand. In 4 weeks, with some time in the middle for Easter, we’ll learn about who wrote these books, why they were written, what is in them, and why they are so complicated.

March 27th: Paul’s Letter’s
April 3rd: The Gospels
April 10th: Acts
April 17th: guest teaching with the Methodists
April 23rd: Easter Vigil at 8:30pm
April 24th: Easter Day/No Class
May 1st: Pseudo-Paulines and Catholic Epistles

Big Words, Big Ideas, and Everyday Life

Our fall education class will begin September 12 and continue until November 21. We will meet in Classroom 3 at Covenant United Methodist Church from 9:45 until 10:30.

Big Words, Big Ideas, and Everyday Life is a chance to take a look at some of the big theological concepts and discover that we not only already know something about them but that they impact our everyday life.

Monthly Potluck!

Starting September 9th, Nativity will have a monthly potluck. We will gather at CUMC (2230 Broadway) from 6-8pm on the second Thursdays of the month for dinner and a Compline service.

It is not necessary to cook something or RSVP in order to come.

Holy Week Services at Nativity
All services will be at Covenant United Methodist Church

April 1, Maundy Thursday
5:30pm Parish Dinner
7:00pm Maundy Thursday Service

April 2, Good Friday
Noon Service

April 3, Easter Vigil*
6:00pm Saturday

*We will have an Easter Vigil Service instead of an Easter morning service due to our access to worship space. The Easter Vigil is an ancient service of the Church. To learn more about the Vigil and its role in the Church year, join us after Church during Lent.

Celebration of a New Ministry

I am delighted to announce that this has been scheduled for:

March 28th, 4pm, St John’s Townsend (314 N Cedar)

This service, which is often called an installation, is in the Book of Common Prayer on page 559. It offers us the chance to solemnize our relationship as priest and congregation and to celebrate the work we will do together. The Bishop will preside.
